Thomasena Kelly, MA, ADC

Thomasena Kelly, MA, ADC is a Certified Alcohol and other Drug Addiction Counselor in the state of South Carolina. She has several years of experience working at the Charleston Center - Rehab and Addiction treatment facility. Along with her experience in addiction counseling, she also has a Master of Arts Degree in Counseling with an emphasis on Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling, in which she received her degree in October 2015 from Webster University. Her philosophy of treatment entails a systematic approach to identifying the disease of addiction and the recovery process. This approach includes the utilization of Motivational Interviewing (MI)/Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET) as a means of empowering individuals to seek internal strength to make changes that will produce positive results in their lives. The use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps to analyze irrational beliefs or negative thinking that has led to continued substance use. She knows that adding these tools along with developing rapport, confidentiality, and providing a safe environment is essential in the treatment of addiction. She strongly believes that treatment should be tailored based on each client’s individual needs and goals because no two people's experiences are the same and neither should their treatment.
